Community Food Forest Garden
|
In 2019 ACES began a process to develop a community garden and “edible forest” that would contribute to the overall well-being of the community while helping people of all ages learn about sustainability, food security and develop skills to produce their own food, and insuring there is fresh local produce available in our community. The project has been funded in part by Grants in Aid from the FVRD.
Goals of the Project
Differing slightly in process from typical community gardens, where individuals have their own plots, the raised beds that we have built with volunteer assistance are planted, tended and harvested communally by all of the folks engaged in the project. Produce is also be shared with those unable to participate in the growing. This project builds on activities that ACES has implemented in the area for over the last decade from the very popular annual ACES SEED Exchange, Solstice events, Community Film Series, Art & Garden Tour, Speaker Series and Rivers of Peace Eco Arts Festival.
